2. Mouthwash

After you brush , you need mouthwash . It can also help you keep your breath fresh and won’t scare people away if you need directions or something.

3. Body wash / Soap

Who doesn’t love feeling clean? Grab a few mini size bottles of body wash or bar soaps to keep you feeling fresh .

4. Hand Sanitizer

Keeping your hands sanitized is so important to keep germs at a minimum.

5. Travel Size Bottles

If you have an item you want to take but too big , travel size bottles are the way to go. Fill up these bottles with your favorites.

6. Deodorant / Antiperspirant

Deodorant will help keep you fresh, whereas antiperspirant also helps to control sweat. Either way you’ll be fresh throughout the day.

Razors are needed if you forgot to shave or if you need a light trim.

8. Tissue

The pocket sized tissue are great for on the go.

9. Lotion

Keeping your skin moisturized in a new environment is important.

10. First Aid Kit

These small kits are packed with alcohol wipes , gauze , bandaids , etc. Just enough items for a small cut.

Sunscreen absorbs or reflects some of the sun’s radiation and helps protect against sunburn.

12. Makeup Wipes

It is very important to remove makeup before going to bed – it can cause damage to your skin during the night.

13. Antibacterial Wipes

Good to use to wipe down common surfaces like hotel rooms or tables in a restaurant.

You can never have enough masks . I like how DollarTree has two in a pack.

15. Sleep Mask

A sleep mask can be used on the plane to help you sleep better .

16. Medicine

You can find tons of generic or name brand medicine for headaches , upset stomachs , and more.

17. Chargers

Very hard to find iPhone chargers , but there are plenty of Android chargers in the store . Buy some to charge portable chargers , speakers , and more.

18. Ziploc Bags

Ziploc bags are great for storing liquids and for storing small fragile items.

19. Headphones

Always good to have an extra pair for the plane . Can be used to watch some entertainment, listen to music , or cancel out noise .

20. Rain Poncho

Small and disposable, rain ponchos can help you protect yourself from the rain.

21. Umbrella

Always good to have for unexpected showers.

22. Bonnett / Durag

Ladies and fellas , the bonnet and durag protects your hair.

23. Shower Cap

Obviously used for the shower to protect your hair from getting wet , but also can be used to store wet clothing or protect shoes.

24. Luggage Tags

Luggage tags are great for identifying your bags quickly . There are some colorful ones that can be easily be seen.

25. Lint Roller

Lint rollers help to remove lint and unwanted hairs from clothing.

26. Disinfecting Spray

Used to disinfect and freshen up rooms and surfaces.

27. Water

It’s always a good idea to stay hydrated . Some stores even have flavored water.

28. Gloves

Always good to have a pair or two to protect your hands .

29. Snacks

If you’re going on a road, bus, or train trip , stock up on some snacks .

30. Toilet Spray

If you’re on a group trip , this little spray freshens instantly and you’ll be more respectful of your friends .

I’m sure there are plenty of other items you can find for $1 to help with your travel needs.

If you can’t find a Dollar Tree , try any 99 cent store.

  1. This is such a great travels essential list! I love how you can find all of these products at such an affordable price! Great guide! 🙂

  2. This is such a great list! The dollar store really does have some hidden travel gems! I love all the travel size things there and the tissues.

  3. What a great idea for an article. They actually just opened a Dollar Tree down the street from me so I might have to check it out before my next trip. Super handy!

  4. Such a great list, I never thought about getting all these things from Dollar Tree actually. Makes it so much easier to get everything in one spot and of course at a great price.

  5. This is such a great list, saving money when traveling is such a good idea because it will add up fast!

  6. Honestly never thought about Dollar Tree for my travel essentials but it makes perfect sense!! And probably way cheaper than Target for example

  7. That’s a great list. We don’t have the DollarTree where I’m from but we do have a similar shop so I will be sure to head there to grab some of the essentials you have mentioned. Also, lint roller and ziploc bags are life saver items.

  8. I never thought about going to the dollar store for travel essentials but wow you can get a lot there! I’m going to have to do some shopping there in preparation for my next trip! Thanks for the great ideas!

  9. I, too, am a fan of dollar stores for travel products. I like them for over-the-counter medication (Advil, Tylenol) with expiry dates. When checking my first-aid kit and I need to toss expired items, it hurts less to dispose of purchases at dollar store prices. Same with folding travel scissors. I once had a pair confiscated in Singapore… again, no worries at dollar store prices. The other things I like are cheap pouches and pencil cases that make great packing cubes/packing organizers. Thanks for the list. The next time I’m in the US, I’ll be dropping in to Dollar Tree (that isn’t established in Canada).

  10. I always love getting a bargain. Why pay more? Your suggestions of a rain poncho and lint rollers were good ones I hadn’t thought of. Great list!

  11. Definitely a few things I haven’t thought about packing! But part of that is because the cost can add up so quickly when shopping at a Target or something… I’ll have to check out DollarTree!!

  12. great idea to get a lot of this stuff at dollar tree because you can get the smaller sizes of stuff, which take up less room in your suitcase.

  13. Loved it! I buy travel essentials all the time and spend a fortune on all the small travel-sized items before my trips. Somehow I never even thought about the Dollar Tree for these purchases. Great idea!

  14. That’s actually a genius idea to go to a dollar store to stock up on some essentials. It’s definitely a lot cheaper than going to bigger stores!

  15. What a great list! I hadn’t thought about hitting the dollar store before a trip, but it’s such a great idea!

  16. This is such a great list! It always amazes me how cheap it can be to pick up travel essentials. For some reason I never think of heading to a dollar store and tend to go to the supermarket where everything is much more expensive. I’m definitely going to remember this tip for my next trip! Also, I completely reinforce traveling with a lint roller. I never bothered until I started traveling for work and it is an absolute lifesaver!

  17. I never thought how many things one can buy for only $1. Water and sanitizers are on top of my list. Thank you for compiling this list and reminding us of ways we could save money.

  18. I love that you not only give an incredibly affordable list but also a great list that covers all bases! I feel like there may be some things that we forget to buy or bring and this list is a great reminder! Thanks for sharing!

  19. I travel a lot on business and this is a great writeup of everything you need. So many times I am making a list and glad to have this which i will save and keep track of. Thanks for this well written piece. Jerry Godinho
